Dean
R Holtermann Biography 2004
Dean became
interested in the entertainment business in the 70's, initially
as a musician, playing in bands and writing songs. To date, he
has written and recorded over 450 songs and produced six different
artists.
During the 70's, Dean was one of the first on Staten Island to own a
home video camera. He started shooting everything, band concerts, weddings,
and family events. In the early 80's, he became a concert promoter at the
St. George Theater, where he put on 40 shows including acts like : Alice
Cooper, George Thorogood, Leslie West, The Tubes, Orleans and
"
Rock 'n' Roll Heaven's Headbangers Ball" (to mention a few). In 1984,
he purchased a building and created the Wave Street Video Entertainment
Club, A.K.A "the Wave", a legendary nightclub on Staten
Island. Here he introduced the area to music videos (pre MTV)
on its five
large projector screens. He utilized the club to showcase pre-recorded
videos,
put on concerts, and video live performances and showcases of
all kinds. Over 1000 performances took place at The Wave, including
such acts
as: Taylor Dayne, Latoya Jackson, Wu Tang Clan, David Johannsen,
Johnny Winter,
Joe
Jackson, Naughty by Nature, Expose, Cypress Hill, Debbie Gibson,
The Fugees, The Ramones, and Twisted Sister, etc..
In 1993, he met Mick Rock who rented a loft space in one of his
buildings for a photo studio. At the time, Dean was producing
a local cable
t.v. show called "Welcome To The Universe", which paired live concert footage
with interviews of the musicians after their performances at "The Wave".
SI Cable aired 68 episodes of this rock n roll extravaganza.
On one of the shows he aired a Mick Rock photo shoot as part of
the show
[1995]. This recieved great crowd reaction and made Dean realize
there
was
something
special there. In 2001 Dean started videoing and documenting
all of Mick's career ( photo shoots, gallery shows , lectures, t.v.
interviews, book
signings,
parties, etc.) accumulating over 250 hundred hours of footage
to
date. He has now produced four 30 minute episodes of The Mick
Rock Show:
1- Picture This; Debbie Harry and Blondie by Mick Rock
(DVD companion to Mick's recently published photo book,
"Picture This; Debbie Harry and Blondie")
2- Mick Rock shoots Michael Stipe

4- Mick Rock and Los Lonely Boys
2008
produced six 30 minute shows over 500 songs,
